Wooden James Webb Space Telescope pin badge

This is the second piece in my new collection of pin badges which pay tribute to some of the coolest telescopes around (which all started with my old favourite, the Lovell Telescope). It shows JWST in its full glory, and uses a metal pin on the back to keep it firmly affixed to your coat or shirt.

This is probably the most optimistic of my telescope collection; JWST is currently scheduled to launch in 2021 if all goes to plan.

Each of these pin badges starts its life on my computer. I digitally draw the intricate design on my computer, then translate the design into files that can be read by my laser cutter. This machine is the focus of my studio, and I’ve spent years hacking and tweaking it to perfection. I laser cut and varnish the cherry wood piece before adding a metal pin back and clasp. I then carefully place it on a Cepheid Studio branded backing card, ready for packing and sending to you, its new owner!
