Solar system socks (unisex)
Solar system socks (unisex)
One pair of solar system socks, designed in Paris and knitted by a small company in the EU.
I designed these constellation socks shortly after finishing my PhD in observational astronomy. They show all the planets of the solar system, from the Sun at the toe to the Kuiper belt at the ankle cuff. The thing that makes these socks REALLY special is their scientific accuracy; the distances between the planets are all to scale; and the relative sizes of the planets are all to scale too! I’ve chosen the colours of the planets based on a combination of their appearance to the naked eye, and their physical composition.
Have you ever wondered why the planets are all in a line? That's because they originally formed from a disc of material that was rotating around the Sun. Over time, this material started to clump together to form the planets we see today. Pluto is the one exception, and this is one of the reasons it had it's 'planetary status' removed in 2006, but I’ve included it on these socks for nostalgia’s sake.
I designed these luxury socks in my Parisian studio, and they are manufactured by a small independent company in the UK. Their high cotton content means that they’re super soft and of the highest quality. The toe is seamlessly joined and the cuff features a wide, soft rib to keep you comfortable all day long.
